MILKY GODDESSES DO THE "BREAST" THING FOR A HEALTHIER PLANET.

Oh yeah!
First blog!

Oh yeah, and I'm so happy to be writing about something so close to my heart, and topics that I am crazy passionate about;
breastfeeding/chestfeeding advocacy and women supporting women.
So, here we go..

This year marks the third year that my favourite photog friend, Jodi-Marree at Postcard Perfect Photography and I, Naomi at Photography by Naomi Hoare have come together to bring the World Breastfeeding Week Annual Photo Collective to the mothers, or as we like to crown them, the Milky Goddesses, of Rockhampton, Queensland.

The WBWAPC is an empowering photo session with our Milky Goddesses proudly breastfeeding in front of the historic Rockhampton Customs House on the Riverside. We do this to support each other and to help end the stigma of breastfeeding in public. We believe in being able to feed and nourish our children anywhere we are, any time it is.
Anywhere, anytime.

This year was a little different than the previous two with social distancing in place because of the dreaded Covid Crisis, so we decided that we would do a few smaller groups for our collective this year to commemorate the strange year it has been. Our motto was "even though we're far apart, we're all still in this together". It was so, so special seeing our return Mummas and Bubs!  Even in the midst of a global pandemic, we had 17 beautiful Milky Goddesses supporting us.

2020 World Breastfeeding Week is all about supporting breastfeeding/chestfeeding for a healthier planet. Breastfeeding/chestfeeding is  perfect for a healthier planet as it is essentially waste-free. It's portable without refrigeration. Sustainable and it doesn't require anything but you.

Don't forget though, that a healthier planet is not just about less landfill and reduced waste but about healthier people and environment as well. Now when I  say environment, I'm not talking about the Ozone layer, I'm referring to the environment immediately surrounding us and who or what bring in to it. Your mental state and well being are always number one in my books.
You can't fill from an empty cup. Surround yourself with supportive people. Be informed of your rights and don't be afraid to inform people that may have an outdated idea or belief. Informed is best. The only way we can better ourselves is by learning and growing.
If you maybe don't have the support you need or want close by, find a local group or even an online group & get involved. I know it's a time when you are probably feeling your most vulnerable but there are so many others in the same situation as you, wanting to find a support and friend too. Some of my best friends came from my online Mummy groups. I treasure their support and encouragement.

Breastfeeding/chestfeeding is scientifically proven to benefit babies all the way through to adulthood. It's also known that breastfeeding/chestfeeding is highly beneficial to the mother/feeding parent as well. Studies have shown that it can reduce the risk of diabetes and breast & ovarian cancer.
How's that for a healthier planet!?

The World Breastfeeding Week Annual Photo Collective is not just a photo session, it's a fundraiser. Jodi and I are so honoured to be able to support & hand over all proceeds from these portraits to our local Australian Breastfeeding Association group.
In the last two years, thanks to the the Milky Goddesses of Rockhampton, we have proudly handed over $2350! This money is a huge help to our Rockhampton and Capricorn Coast ABA group. It has contributed in them being able to offer half price memberships and continue offering helpful classes for our community.
The ABA groups are run mostly by amazing volunteers and are an invaluable resource to new parents. We can't think of a better organisation to support.

Please find helpful breastfeeding links
at the bottom of the portraits.

Thanks for reading.
